Maria João Pires was looking forward to this duo tour with great pleasure and she is deeply saddened to have to cancel the concerts at such short notice. Team World Master Pianists wishes her beloved master pianist strength and a speedy recovery, which hopefully may lead to a reunion in a future season.
Together with Maria João Pires, World Master Pianists has decided not to cancel next February 4’s recital but to offer you a special concert to replace it. The now world-renowned piano duo Lucas and Arthur Jussen feel honoured to give a concert in homage to the Portuguese master pianist who was at the root of their stormy musical careers from their early childhood.
‘From Pires, we learned the importance of breathing and never separating technique from musicality. We hope that when people hear us, they will recognise a little Maria João Pires in us.‘- Lucas.
