The renowned Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires has been awarded the Helena Vaz da Silva European Award 2025. The jury hailed her as “a pianist of world-class distinction” and commended her unwavering commitment to using music as a means of building a more humane Europe.
This distinction once again affirms Pires’ exceptional significance within the international musical world.
Reflecting on the recognition, Pires remarked: “Receiving a prize means receiving an honour. And receiving an honour means remembering how many people have given their time, collaborated, and helped to make this possible. My first response will therefore always be: ‘my deepest thanks’ to everyone for this opportunity.”
